Understanding

What is: “Understanding”?

Understanding is a process of building relations between related concepts.

Understanding helps to find out useful knowledge (concepts).

 

Example 1:

Let consider phrase: “Thunder is caused by lightning”.

Question: When can we say that Intelligent System understands the phrase?

Answer: If Intelligent System created cause-effect relation between concept “lightning” and concept “thunder”.

 

Example 2:

Let imagine that an Intelligent System knows that today is 2004 year (concept 1).

Let the system was told that that Michael Jackson was born in 1958 (concept 2).

If the system is able to bind concept 1 and concept 2 then we can say that the system understands concept 2.

Understanding could help to the system to calculate current age of Michael Jackson 2004 – 1958 = 46 years.
